"The M.A. in Marriage and Family therapy program really stood out to me because of the cohort model where community is built into your educational experience. As you learn about working with relationships, you live out what you’ve been learning in the classroom. Also, the professors are so personally involved in your life and your daily and professional growth, that they really are in a very unique relationship with us. So they are not only professors, but are mentors. There’s more depth to the relationship." "After I had finished my undergraduate degree at the University of Illinois, I worked in foster care and adoption as a case manager. It was really hard for a couple of years since I was engaging people with such brokenness and pain in their lives. I felt like some of them were beyond help I could give, and I wanted to do more with my role instead of being the rule enforcer. I want to have a more collaborative, therapeutic relationship and be a safe person who families can trust.” -- Kelsey Abiera M.A. '17 Marriage and Family Therapy |
