JEFFREY BARBEAU, PH.D., ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF THEOLOGY
#WheatonPeopleWednesday #MyWheaton
“The M.A. degree in Theology builds on Wheaton College’s liberal arts context. The program attracts students from all different walks of life—both nationally and internationally—and they come to us with a wide range of different dreams and goals. Our time in the classroom is very exciting!
My scholarly expertise is in historical and systematic theology. Historical theology looks at the development of doctrine in the context of various social, political, and church events. Systematic theology takes up Christian beliefs from a thematic or doctrinal approach. My research and writing develop out of the interaction between theology, history, and literature. I also teach and write on the history and theology of Methodism.
As an undergraduate, I discovered a deep love for theology, but it took time to understand the relationship between theology and practice. A key part of my development came from mentors who helped me to recognize that the study of Christian theology and history is a form of ministry and the teaching of those subjects is for the good of the church. Theology functions in service to the church, and it’s an honor to teach in the Wheaton College community."
